Mobile outlook in search of New Growth

Global trends of Telecom has been changing tremendously in both developing and advance markets, Telco’s are seeking ways to enhance their subscriber base by offering either new services on existing platform or through greater bandwidth.

According to Famous Research Company Frost and Sullivan, Global subscriber growth in 2007 is still driven by 2G/2.5G; stats have proven that total Global subscriber base was 949.3M in 2006, which is expected to grow 1139.2 by 2007, 2G/2.5G subscribers was 858.8M and is expected to grow 1023.4M, similarly 3G subscribers was 90.6M and is expected to grow 115.7M.

High ARPU is foremost in developing or fast growing markets which are Prepaid dominant. Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, China, Thailand, India are developing markets which though generate lower ARPU due to cheaper Mobile phones, untapped rural potential Market, 3G’s emphasis on cheap voice, Mobile Broadband but have high potentials from subscriber growth prospects.

In terms of applications, messaging accounts for major share of data revenues. However, other services such as Mobile Music, Mobile TV, Video streaming, Mobile Games, IMS, LBS, Mobile advertising and others have captured industry’s imagination.

Carriers with nationwide 3G networks and good distribution of handsets are seeing up tick in data ARPU. The Japanese and Korean carriers are all seeing benefits of rolling out their 3G service. Deployment of 3.5G technologies such as HSDPA and EV-DO Rev A (and B) are also gaining momentum. WiMax is gaining some traction both in the developed and developing world. However, with changing Mobile technologies & increase in Subscriber base, competition has become intense for operators and in order to keep up with the pace of emerging growth perspective operators need to have business model to support the Wireless data trends.
